Emma's June Wrap Up 2019!

Hiya bookish people! Woah, this month has been really busy! I have read a lot and yet I feel like I am no further through my TBR, but then again, who is? (Please don't answer that). Not to mention how much Netflix and different assessments I have completed for school. I am sort of really proud of myself? I also changed and added a couple of things to the website. Read on to see an organised (OML really, unlike anything else in my life) post about my goals + achievements and more this month!

PS. I can’t believe that it is already the start of July, and at the end of this month it will be our ONE YEAR BLOGIVERSARY of having AFCTL up and running!

Please Send Help by Gaby Dunn & Allison Raskin

In this hilarious follow-up novel to the New York Times bestseller I Hate Everyone But You, long distance best friends Ava and Gen have finally made it to the same time zone (although they’re still over a thousand miles apart).

Through their hilarious, sometimes emotional, but always relatable conversations, Ava and Gen are each other’s support systems through internships, relationship troubles, questionable roommates, undercover reporting, and whether or not it’s a good idea to take in a feral cat. Please Send Help perfectly captures the voice of young adults looking to find their place in the world and how no matter how desperate things seem, you always have your best friend to tell it like it is and pick you back up.

Aurora Rising (Aurora Cycle #1) by Amie Kauffman & Jay Kristoff

From the internationally bestselling authors of THE ILLUMINAE FILES comes an epic new science fiction adventure.

The year is 2380, and the graduating cadets of Aurora Academy are being assigned their first missions. Star pupil Tyler Jones is ready to recruit the squad of his dreams, but his own boneheaded heroism sees him stuck with the dregs nobody else in the Academy would touch…

A cocky diplomat with a black belt in sarcasm
A sociopath scientist with a fondness for shooting her bunkmates
A smart-ass techwiz with the galaxy’s biggest chip on his shoulder
An alien warrior with anger management issues
A tomboy pilot who’s totally not into him, in case you were wondering

And Ty’s squad isn’t even his biggest problem—that’d be Aurora Jie-Lin O’Malley, the girl he’s just rescued from interdimensional space. Trapped in cryo-sleep for two centuries, Auri is a girl out of time and out of her depth. But she could be the catalyst that starts a war millions of years in the making, and Tyler’s squad of losers, discipline-cases and misfits might just be the last hope for the entire galaxy.

They're not the heroes we deserve. They're just the ones we could find. Nobody panic.

I'm posting my review next week so keep an eye out!

Screen Queens by Lori Goldenstein

The Bold Type meets The Social Network when three girls vying for prestigious summer internships through a startup incubator program uncover the truth about what it means to succeed in the male-dominated world of tech.

This summer Silicon Valley is a girls' club.

Three thousand applicants. An acceptance rate of two percent. A dream internship for the winning team. ValleyStart is the most prestigious high school tech incubator competition in the country. Lucy Katz, Maddie Li, and Delia Meyer have secured their spots. And they've come to win.

Meet the Screen Queens.

Lucy Katz was born and raised in Palo Alto, so tech, well, it runs in her blood. A social butterfly and CEO in-the-making, Lucy is ready to win and party.

East Coast designer, Maddie Li left her home and small business behind for a summer at ValleyStart. Maddie thinks she's only there to bolster her graphic design portfolio, not to make friends.

Delia Meyer taught herself how to code on a hand-me-down computer in her tiny Midwestern town. Now, it's time for the big leagues--ValleyStart--but super shy Delia isn't sure if she can hack it (pun intended).

When the competition kicks off, Lucy, Maddie, and Delia realize just how challenging the next five weeks will be. As if there wasn't enough pressure already, the girls learn that they would be the only all-female team to win ever. Add in one first love, a two-faced mentor, and an ex-boyfriend turned nemesis and things get...complicated.

Filled with humor, heart, and a whole lot of girl power, Screen Queens is perfect for fans of Morgan Matson, Jenny Han, and The Bold Type.

Aurora Rising (Aurora Cycle #1) by Amie Kauffman & Jay Kristoff

I got this book because I have seen so much about it by my fellow bloggers and so I thought I would give it a go! I really enjoyed this book and you can actually read my review next week!

The Hating Game by Sally Thorne

I got this book because the amazing Priyasha at Books and Co. sent me a PDF copy as a blogging present! I mentioned in her review how good the book sounded and she generously sent me a copy!

I'm 😄😄😄 / 5 excited to read this book!

Nemesis (n.) 1) An opponent or rival whom a person cannot best or overcome.
2) A person’s undoing
3) Joshua Templeman

Lucy Hutton has always been certain that the nice girl can get the corner office. She’s charming and accommodating and prides herself on being loved by everyone at Bexley & Gamin. Everyone except for coldly efficient, impeccably attired, physically intimidating Joshua Templeman. And the feeling is mutual.

Trapped in a shared office together 40 (OK, 50 or 60) hours a week, they’ve become entrenched in an addictive, ridiculous never-ending game of one-upmanship. There’s the Staring Game. The Mirror Game. The HR Game. Lucy can’t let Joshua beat her at anything—especially when a huge new promotion goes up for the taking.

If Lucy wins this game, she’ll be Joshua’s boss. If she loses, she’ll resign. So why is she suddenly having steamy dreams about Joshua, and dressing for work like she’s got a hot date? After a perfectly innocent elevator ride ends with an earth-shattering kiss, Lucy starts to wonder whether she’s got Joshua Templeman all wrong.

Maybe Lucy Hutton doesn’t hate Joshua Templeman. And maybe, he doesn’t hate her either. Or maybe this is just another game.

~ Life ~

~ School ~

Good golly gosh. I finish up this term in 4 days I’m totally not counting down the days, why would I? And then I am on holiday for two weeks! School is super good at the moment, I have done three assessments for Media Studies and I am heading to a subject endorsement since I have gotten Excellence for all three of my internal assessments! Maths is a bit of a…. Well….. It is happening, but my teacher is being rather neglectful. However, my latest class with her went well so I am happier than I was.

~ Friends ~

My friends are going well! I organised my friends birthday party for last week where a bunch of us went over to her house and just ate junk food and drank fizzy drinks. It was really fun! We have also started playing a game called We Did Not Playtest This at lunch time, and have expanded our group to the group next to us as well (who have always kind of been our friends when we see them but not actively?). I am happy we are seeing more of them since they are pretty cool people and it is nice to play with more people than less!

~ Shows / Movies ~

I am currently in the process of re-re-re-rewatching The 100! I am still watching How To Get Away With Murder with my dad, and I am going through so many series I just don’t know what to do with myself! I have watched High Seas, I Am Mother, Friends season 6, Dawson’s Creek seasons 1-2, Mordichai, Red 2, The Hitman’s Bodyguard, and the Society.

~ Holidays ~

I am super excited because I have my first babysitting job (I hope I don’t kill the poor thing) and I will be working a few times as well. My two week holiday starts in 4 days, and I am super excited! Two of my friends are having their birthdays in the holidays and I am looking forward to those! I am hoping to read a LOT of books, and watch a bunch more Netflix if I can. I am also hoping to write more posts to either post as I write them, or to schedule for later! Please expect a lot of reviews :)

~ Goals ~
Reading

My reading goals for July is to read 10 books, and I am thinking that I may end up getting that goal if I can read at least 6 during the holidays.

Life

I have no goals in life, but to eat food.

      1. Yes I think so!
I really love the slogan, it's hilarious! I think that people are a little bit disappointed about some of the pairing, but I am currently writing a review so I can expand on that!

      1. Thank you! Yes, I really enjoyed Aurora Rising, a little bit more than Illuminae and co. The 100 is my favourite show, along with The Originals (I lived TVD but feel that the originals is less "I don't know who to love!")
        Thank you so much!

      2. Oh cool, I'll definitely have to check that one out sometime then. Yes I did really love it so I have no idea why I stopped watching it. It's a good excuse to watch it from the start again sometime though. OMG I love The Originals too! and yeah I get what you mean, although I do love both.

      3. I just really love the family dynamics even though I am always a sucker for good romance problems. I think after season 5 I struggled with the love aspect of Elena always having problems, but I did enjoy season 8 even though all my heart strings were tugged :(

    4. I love the family dynamics too. Plus a lot of the characters in it. I just love Klaus so much :L I need to rewatch it sometime; it's been years since i saw the oldest seasons and I can't remember certain seasons very well now /: oh well, it'll be fun to rewatch :D but yes I remember my hearts strings getting tugged bit during the last season too.

      1. Yes, although I did think that the last season was sort of rushed? I'm not too interested in Legacies TBH :/

      2. Yeah it might have been. I really need to rewatch it tbh :L I'd like to see what it's like sometime but I don't think it's available where I live atm.
