Dark secrets and forbidden love threaten the very survival of the Shadowhunters in Cassandra Clare’s Queen of Air and Darkness, the final novel in The Dark Artifices trilogy.

What if damnation is the price of true love?

Innocent blood has been spilled on the steps of the Council Hall, the sacred stronghold of the Shadowhunters. In the wake of the tragic death of Livia Blackthorn, the Clave teeters on the brink of civil war. One fragment of the Blackthorn family flees to Los Angeles, seeking to discover the source of the disease that is destroying the race of warlocks. Meanwhile, Julian and Emma take desperate measures to put their forbidden love aside and undertake a perilous mission to Faerie to retrieve the Black Volume of the Dead. What they find in the Courts is a secret that may tear the Shadow World asunder and open a dark path into a future they could never have imagined. Caught in a race against time, Emma and Julian must save the world of Shadowhunters before the deadly power of the parabatai curse destroys them and everyone they love.

I am reviewing this on my own terms, this was not proided to me and no compensation was given for this review

Let me give you some history on this trilogy. I have cried multiple times, but here is some more background information. Two of these times, were at school. Whilst I was reading Lady Midnight I cried when there was a fight scene, and my friends wanted me to not read for the entire lunch period again so they took and hid my book. In my defense, I had only like an hour sleep the night before. And as for Lord of Shadows, well, with that ending, who wouldn’t cry during their class time while they are supposed to be doing a maths assessment? Lucky for me, I was not caught crying in my school environment in regards to Queen of Air and Darkness.

Let me get onto how much I loved the joint plot with multiple crises. The triangle-but-also-not-really-a-triangle-if-you-know-what-I-mean between Mark, Cristina and Kieran has honestly got me in tears, especially the thing with Aedon at the end. Yes, I am being cryptic, but yes it is reasonable for me to be jumping up and down squealing right now! Ty and Kit! OML why was Ty not looking at what he had in front of him at the time instead of making Kit so sad when he was just trying to make Ty happy?!

I don’t know how to make a review without crying. I am in love with this trilogy more than any of the other Shadowhunter novel series! I don’t know why, but I am extremely in love with this trilogy of the Shadowhunter universe, and there is so much art and everything included! The copy that I managed to buy was one where there was a short story at the end (which ended with such a cliffhanger that made me say "I want to throw myself off the cliffhanger") and the art included was so beautiful and helps add to the overall power of the scene.

I recommend this to anyone who loves Cassandra Clare’s Shadowhunter world, but please do start with Lady Midnight though, otherwise you will be very very confused, and will be very sad but you won’t know why.
