The 20 Questions Book Tag!

Thank you so much to El for tagging me in this awesome tag!

HOW MANY BOOKS IS TOO MANY IN A SERIES?

It really depends on the author, and the writing style. Not only that, but when you look at characters, plot(s), and other similar factors, you have to make a decision about whether or not you want to keep reading. I know that I struggle to read a series if they are just recycling the original plot and characters, with absolutely no change whatsoever in the scheme of things.

For example, I really struggled with Kiera Cass’ The Selection but I really enjoyed The School for Good and Evil.

HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT CLIFFHANGERS?

Is it allowed for someone to throw themselves off the cliff-hanger if it means getting the next book sooner?

HARDBACK OR PAPERBACK?

My heart says hardback, but alas, my wallet says paperback. I understand that they have different costs, but I wish hardbacks were cheaper! I want to be able to buy more of a stores products at a reasonable price, rather than less at an outrageous price! If the price is too high, then I buy the paperback copy, unless I started the series in hardback. If I do that, then I'm in for an expensive ride.

FAVOURITE BOOK?

How do I choose?! Favourite book that I am reading right now? Favourite book from a genre? Favourite book from a certain time in my life? I can’t choose! I have read so many amazing books over the years!

LEAST FAVOURITE BOOK?

Midnight Sun by Trish Cook. I feel like it was written to be very trashy, and essentially just recycled the plots of The Fault in Our Stars and Everything Everything. It is also a credit to how it was written, though, since the lovers-who-are-ill plot was used for Five Feet Apart which is very popular.

LOVE TRIANGLE . . . YES OR NO?

I don’t mind a good love-triangle, if it is used - now I am going to say this super slowly - as a plot device and not as the actual plot. A love-triangle can add to the story, but I really hate it when the whole story itself is about the love-triangle.

THE MOST RECENT BOOK YOU COULDN'T FINISH?

Never Contented Things by Sarah Porter. I got only five chapters in before I DNF’d it because it just wouldn’t sit well with me.

A BOOK YOU'RE CURRENTLY READING?

Ever Alice

THE LAST BOOK YOU RECOMMENDED SOMEONE?

I recommend so many books on a daily basis, I wouldn't know!

OLDEST BOOK (PUB. DATE) THAT YOU'VE READ?

Definitely Peter Pan in Kensington Gardens since it was published in 1906 (woah, a whole 113 years ago?!)

NEWEST BOOK YOU’VE READ (PUB. DATE)?

Hmmmmm. Probably Aurora Rising since I don’t want to add ARC’s to this list if I can avoid it. Just because that is all I ever use, lol.

FAVOURITE AUTHOR?

Sarah J. Maas all the way!

BUYING BOOKS OR BORROWING THEM?

Again, my heart says buy. But let’s be honest, if I bought every book that I read, I would never be able to read anything, or, I wouldn’t have anywhere to live.

A BOOK YOU DISLIKE BUT EVERYONE ELSE LIKES?

The Fifth Wave. I really struggled to understand the appeal of it since apocalyptic books are my JAM. Does anyone else have an apocalyptic plan? I have one for if something similar to the FAYZ happens, from Michael Grant's Gone series.

BOOKMARKS OR DOG EARS?

Bookmarks all the way! What sort of monster do you think I am!?

A BOOK YOU CAN REREAD OVER AND OVER?

A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas. I just find that this book is so beautiful for the characters and I am in love with SJM’s writing.

CAN YOU READ WHILE LISTENING TO MUSIC?

This sounds really weird to a lot of people, but yes! I can read while listening to music but I do have a certain criteria… the music has to be instrumental. I can’t deal with lyrics, but just calm music is good because then I can kind of interpret the mood.

MULTIPLE POV'S OR ONE POV?

Multiple POV’s, no question about it. Multiple PO’s gives so much more perspective, but I prefer third person POVs if that makes sense? When the book is told in third person, but the chapter of main POV is of a certain character rather than generalised.

DO YOU READ A BOOK IN ONE SITTING OR OVER MULTIPLE DAYS ON AVERAGE?

I will, on average, read a book over around 4 or five days. There are a few that I read in one sitting though.

WHO DO YOU WANT TO TAG?

  2. Hey Emma!
It was fun to read your answers! I absolutely agree about love triangles. In general I don’t mind if there is a love triangle in the book but I don’t want it to be the focus of the whole story haha. Thank you for the tag and I look forward to doing it soon!! <3

  3. Ooh SJM superfan I see! I loved ToG but actually haven't finished ACOTAR- I think I'll give it another another go
Ooh I am totally a fan of multiple POVs as well as well as borrowing books XD because we don't all have room on our bookshelves haha. I've actually never heard of The Fifth Wave, but if I read it then I think it'll have to wait a long while before I get through my TBR!
Thanks for the tag, lovely! I'm so excited to do it!!

    1. Yes, she is a KAWHEEN!
Please do! ACOMAF and ACOWAR are better than ACOTAR, please believe me! I actually read ACOTAR before TOG but now I can't imagine living my life without having read either of them!
POV's are so good when the characters are all unique, rather than having a single tone which makes the purpose nonexistant.
Yay! I'm looking forward to seeing your answers!

  5. Hooow did I miss this post from you? I am a monster !

Totally loved this answer 'Is it allowed for someone to throw themselves off the cliff-hanger if it means getting the next book sooner?' :))

I actually love paperbacks :)) I do like how hardbacks look on my shelf, but I am so much more comfortable reading paperbacks xD

Lovely post, Emma, as always <3

    1. You aren't a monster! Especially if you are relying on the subscriber email to tell you when I post, I have been super slack lately with it 😕

Haha, thank you! It sums up what I feel with cliffhangers pretty accurately.

I love both but hardbacks are so much more expensive?????

      Thank you so much!

  6. Aww thank you so much for the tag and for encouraging people to look at my page. It means so much to me ♥ I'll get it done soon and look forward to answering the questions :D
I loved reading your answers. I agree with you about the number of books in a series depending on the writing and author. I also agree with you about hardbacks; they're so expensive! Although I have gotten some quite good ones secondhand from Amazon. It's just kind of a gamble as you have to trust that somebody else's good or very good is the same as yours.
It's a shame that you didn't get on with Never Contented Things. I really need to re-read and finish Throne Of Glass. And get on with ACOTAR as it's Sarah J Maas and fae!!
Thanks again for the tag (:

    1. Your welcome! Please don't feel pressured to do it though! I know that you have a bit that you want to catch up on :)
Yes yes yes to everything you mentioned! If you do a reread, maybe we should do a read-along?

  7. Thanks (: I will get it done I just have a few from before to post first although they're all already typed up at least.
Ooh that's a good idea xD it might push me to get on with a bit more. Plus it gives us someone to talk to about it at the time of reading.
