Review : Dear Evan Hansen || My First Audiobook!

When a letter that was never meant to be seen by anyone draws high school senior Evan Hansen into a family's grief over the loss of their son, he is given the chance of a lifetime: to belong. He just has to stick to a lie he never meant to tell, that the notoriously troubled Connor Murphy was his secret best friend.
Suddenly, Evan isn't invisible anymore--even to the girl of his dreams. And Connor Murphy's parents, with their beautiful home on the other side of town, have taken him in like he was their own, desperate to know more about their enigmatic son from his closest friend. As Evan gets pulled deeper into their swirl of anger, regret, and confusion, he knows that what he's doing can't be right, but if he's helping people, how wrong can it be?
No longer tangled in his once-incapacitating anxiety, this new Evan has a purpose. And a website. He's confident. He's a viral phenomenon. Every day is amazing. Until everything is in danger of unraveling and he comes face to face with his greatest obstacle: himself.
A simple lie leads to complicated truths in this big-hearted coming-of-age story of grief, authenticity and the struggle to belong in an age of instant connectivity and profound isolation.

Hiya bookish people!

So, this was actually my first ever audiobook! Well, since Pollyanna when I was 9, but that’s a little bit different. I listened to this novel when I was walking to and from school everyday, which is a fair chunk of my day. Shall I just say that this review is gonna be quite different from normal; it’s going to be two parts, one answering questions and worries I had about the book before I started with what I know now and the other being my review of the actual book!

Will I be able to pay attention to what’s going on?
Yes! Way more than I thought I would be able to, actually! I found that being read to was a really good way for me to retain information, and I could pay attention to what was happening super quickly! Everytime I kinda blanked on the plot was when I wasn’t listening, but the narrator's voice kind of triggered what I had read heard last time, and I was back off again!

Knowing the musical, will this book be too different?
Now, this was a huge concern of mine. And although there were quite a few moments where I wondered if the characters would just burst into song, but they didn’t. Well, for the most part. As far as I am concerned, this is a really good musical to book adaptation!

Is this a good way for me to read books? Yes! I do walk a lot most days, and use my headphones at least once a day! So this is a really good way for me to safely read on my way to school and home, but still get stuff done! I think I am going to try Spin the Dawn next!/p>

  1. Ooh love the format! It's so unique! My best friend is obsessed with the musical,so I've been curious you read it! Looking forward to your review <3

    1. Thank you! I can't wait to write it! It will be a small bullet point review in my wrap up :)

  2. This post format is SO creative! I can't wait for your review ;)

    1. Aww thank you! It should be up at the end of the month <3

  3. I listened to my first audiobook this year too. I picked Gossip Girl as I'd read it once before but it was long enough ago to feel new again. Plus it was fairly short to start with. I got on a lot better than I expected to but I think it depends on the narrator. I'll try another out soon hopefully. I look forward to seeing what you thought if the book. And really hope that you enjoy Spin The Dawn. I recently brought a copy do fingers crossed I'll read it soon.

    1. Yay! Audiobook newbie buddies!
I actually haven't picked Gossip Girl up in years.... I really need to do a reread!
Thank you! I hope to be able to listen to it soon :)

  4. Ooh didn't think of that.
Ive only ever read the first book. That's another series I need to get out of the online library eventually. I even only saw the show for the first time this year
I hope you get to (:
